Jamie Nudelman, a social media growth expert at the digital marketing consultancy Viral Marketing Stars, told Business Insider that Donaldson has become "more powerful than traditional media." As Ulta Beauty says it expects a slowdown in retail's most resilient category, an upstart says it is bucking the trend. Excluding one-time items, Oddity reported earnings of 61 cents per share. Analysts had expected revenue of $186.5 million and earnings per share of 56 cents, according to LSEG. Oddity believes beauty and wellness products are best sold online, and that consumers will not need to visit beauty shops such as Ulta and Sephora if product selection can be improved. Last month, Ulta Beauty CEO Dave Kimbell warned that demand for beauty products was cooling, sending its stock down 15% that day and hitting shares of e.l.f.

2024’s safest sunscreens for summer and year-round
  + stars: | 2024-05-01 | by ( Sandee Lamotte | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +10 min
The annual report provides a database of products by brand and type, while also breaking them down into the top recreational sunscreens, the best daily SPF (sun protection factor) and the safest sunscreens for babies and children. Many of the safest choices will be mineral-based instead of chemical-based sunscreens, said Emily Spilman, EWG’s healthy living science program manager. Mineral sunscreens work by physically deflecting and blocking the sun’s rays, as opposed to sunscreens with chemicals that absorb UV rays and release heat as they break down. In 2019, oxybenzone was an ingredient in 60% of all sunscreen products tested by EWG, dropping to 30% in 2022. By 2023 and again in 2024, the chemical was used in only 6% of tested products, which included sunscreens and daily moisturizers and lip balms with sunscreen protection.

Lifestyle influencer Jacqlyn Burnett was more excited this year to attend the country music festival Stagecoach for the first time than to go to Coachella. Stagecoach, the annual country music festival held this past weekend in Southern California, is rivaling the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival as the new favorite among brands and social-media influencers. From the growing interest in country music to fashion, influencers and brands flocked to Stagecoach this year. Some influencers, including Paige Lorenze, Maggie and Emma Macdonald, Estelle Lebourgeois, Chloe Trujillo, and Alyssa Lynch, even skipped Coachella for Stagecoach. Béis, the luggage brand, invited influencers to Stagecoach instead of Coachella, offering themed activities and special access to the festival.
